Holiday Mode

So, when term started this year, it was still technically school holidays for the kids (and some adults), meaning that everyone, including all the staff were still on holiday mode. Unfortunately, this meant that the pool was unbelievably quiet.
You’re probably thinking, but isn’t that a good thing? Who would actually want full classes and the normal busy and loud atmosphere that comes with the swimming pool. And normally I would agree with that. It is stressful have full classes and its always nice to have a break, but because it was still technically holidays, it was dead quiet at work.
Like actually DEAD quiet.
I’ll try and put this in a better perspective for you.
My Friday afternoon shift, I normally have about 5-6 kids in every class, with a total of four classes, as it is a short shift. That's a total of 20-24 kids that I should see every weel, correct?
Well, the first week back I had a total of three kids. Not just in the classes, but in the classes combined! That's 3 out of 20!
I had two kids in my first, and one in my last class, meaning that I had two classes where I had absolutely nothing to do! Boredom to the maximum.
Teaching one or two kids is hard as well, because they get through all the drills and activities extremely fast so you have to be creative and think of other things they can do, so they don't just get bored doing laps for the whole lesson. It was extremely painful to say the least.
And just to add to the list...because so many swimmers missed their regular time, it means that they should have a makeup lesson later. Most parents choose to do these on the weekends, which I also work! So it means I will have extra full classes for the next couple weeks while people frantically try to book their make up’s so they aren’t wasting their money.

And here I am, still getting used to waking up in the morning...I’m still in holiday mode as well! So inconsiderate....

Alive and Functioning

Coming back to work after a holiday, or a break of any kind, is always difficult, borderline painful. Having to set the alarm, get up after...
