Furry Friends *Ahem* I mean Purr-y Friends

Have you ever thought about cat videos? They are this huge phenomenon across the internet, mostly YouTube as it is the most popular platform for videos at the moment. But have you ever asked why we love them so much?

Yes, they are cute and adorable, but there is so much more too it than that. So, being the weirdo that I am, I have devised a list about the appeal of cat videos. Here goes!

Reasons why we love Cat Videos:

·      You don't like cats: in most videos you see the cats do silly things and fall over and such and you may enjoy watching their pain and failure (you horrible heartless person)

·      You are allergic to cats: watching these videos is a way for you too enjoy these adorable creatures without sneezing or physical reacting in anyway

·      Relate as you have a cat: this one has two parts. 1) You have a cat so you can see how adorable they are, and maybe try and prod your cat to do the same things that you have seen, because it was just SO CUTE. 2) You understand how much effort it is to care for the creature, feeding, cleaning up after and just living with the strange thing. In the cat video you can appreciate the cat without thinking about how your going to have to clean out the kitty litter later on.

·      You want a cat: maybe you’re not allowed a cat, if your parents don't let you, or your roommate is allergic, these videos are good enough to satisfy your desire enough to stop annoying the other person or people you live with.

·      You humanise the cat: if you can watch a cat video and at one point think “same”, then you are humanising the cat. If you are watching a cat be all adventurous in a bath tub and then watch it slip over, and find it funny because the same thing has happened to you, you love this because it is funny and you are not the one in pain. You relate the cats adventures and annoying habits to your own life, thus you love cat videos.

What’s also totally fascinating is that Cats don't know about the internet, yet they are globally famous. That is just totally not fair!! And all because they were just being themselves. If only it was that easy for us humans too!!

Washed Away

So, it took a while for me to figure out what I was going to post today. It has been  bit of a miserable day, absolutely no source of inspiration. That was, until I realised that no inspiration is the best inspiration of all. I will explain my logic.

I swear, that from the moment I woke up this morning, til even now, it has been raining; a contributor to my miserable day, and the topic of todays ramble.

Rain is such an interesting thing. Before you start asking, what is this chick on? Just think about it for a minute.

Like, yeah it's just the weather when the clouds get too heavy they let some of the water go (in simple terms or course, I don't know the exact scientific explanation). Or there are theories, like it’s when the gods cry and/or pee on us (I don't particularly like those ideas, far too disgusting for my tastes). But rain is a much bigger thing.

I'll break it down for you.

Have you ever watch a romantic comedy (what am I saying, of course you have), and there is this big confession of love between the man and the woman after one of them has made a big mistake or they are together after being separated for a long time? Every rom-com in the world has a version of this, don't deny it. Anyway, before or during this scene, it is always raining (okay, maybe I don't have the proof to say always, but very often at the very least). It is seen as a total cliché, because it is! It is so overused but there is a reason that it is used so often. The rain is a symbol.

What does rain do? It makes things wet, yes, but it also washes things away. The dirt or gunk in the world is representative of the dirt or gunk, the negative things clogging our emotions and mentality. This is why the cliché is so overused. Because, before or during these romantic speeches and confessions of love, the speaker will often come to a sudden realisation, and discover that they have been crushing a beautiful opportunity of love. Awwwwwww aint that sweet?

So, yes, in these circumstances the rain is something happy, and beautiful, but just like every coin, there is another side to this.

Rain is also an overused cliché for every breakup, depression, death, or abandonment scene (or at least most of them). In this case, instead of washing away the negative, the rain presents this dooming, flooding, end of the world scenario like the rain did in Noah’s Ark. It is a sad thing, heart wrenching and totally dream crushing for everyone who experiences it. Yet, in its doom, don't you think it is beautiful?

It is a never-ending paradox. People have so many different opinions about rain, that it is for life, or death, or too noisy, or wonderfully calming. Rain is just so fascinating. And no one can tell me otherwise.
